Trip Overview

Lake Champlain is the sixth largest lake in the U.S., but what really makes a bike tour here so special is the unspoiled natural beauty of its shoreline, and the unsurpassed views across the lake to the Green Mountains in Vermont and New York's Adirondack mountains.

Saturday’s easy cycling begins with a delightful ride along the western shore of the lake. You stop for a visit at Snow Farm Vineyards, which is followed by an awe-inspiring ride along a former railway causeway that extends over a mile out onto the lake.

Sunday’s ride takes you over Alburg Passage and across a small bridge to Isle La Motte, the site of a French fort built in 1666 ... and to Saint Anne’s Shrine. Sometime during your stay, you will want to visit Hero’s Welcome General Store, the local community gathering place and purveyors of an eclectic mix of baked goods, local arts, and rugged necessities.

On this weekend, you stay at the historic North Hero House. This lakeside inn has long been a local favorite and provides comfortable rooms and excellent dining while still maintaining its essential old-fashioned character and charm.

Ride along the western shores of the islands looking across Lake Champlain to the towering peaks of the Adirondacks. Today you cycle north crossing a narrow causeway onto Isle la Motte, where you visit Saint Anne’s Shrine and the site of the first French settlement in the soon-to-be United States.
